Ses Salines is located in the South of Mallorca and at only a few kilometres form the sea. The name of the municipality has its roots in the exploitation of sea salt from its salines, which are still exploited commercially and working today. Wikipedia
The small village of Ses Salines is popular for the charming village centre its beautiful surroundings: the nearby Es Trenc beach and the seaside village Colonia de Sant Jordi, which belongs to the same municipality and has a picturesque port and no less than five beaches. The heart of the village is beating around the main square in front of the town hall and along the main street. There are some traditional café-bars and some restaurants, which are well-known and cherished far beyond the little village. The best known is certainly the Bodega Barahona, which the locals only call "Manolo" in reference to the long-time owner. A few steps down the road is an elegant boutique hotel "Can Bonico", which is residing in the oldest manor house of the village and which has been lovingly renovated to offer any convenience of a four star hotel. Besides there are certainly all facilities needed on a daily bases like bakeries, a supermarket, pharmacy and banks. The area around Ses Salines is mostly flat. There are some interesting places for a day out, like a visit Santanyí or a boat trip to the beautiful island and nature reserve of Cabrera. Water sports facilities are plenty and there are also some interesting tours for cyclists. Ses Salines has managed to keep its original charm, even though the last years have seen quite some development in the real estate market, as more and more Germans, British, Swiss and French buyers have discovered the appeal of this beautiful part of the island.
The property market in Ses Salines includes mostly houses and fincas in the traditional style. Within the village boundaries cosy village houses and the larger town houses are very much sought after, many of them still in need of renovation and with plenty of opportunities to realise own ideas and individual styling. In the surroundings of the village the property market focuses mainly on new built country houses and fincas with a lot of land, gardens and private pools. Buyers who want to create their very own dream home from scratch, will be looking for building plots, which can still be found in walking distance to the village and with a bit of luck will even have sea views. Prices have gone up over the last years, but as property for sale in and around Ses Salines is not limitless, there is still quite some potential for an increase in value and the prospects can still be rated as positive. Ses Salines is a good location for buyers, looking for a place near the sea and who will appreciate the quieter live within a grown village.
Around the main square in front of the town hall and along the main street there is a variety of bakeries, banks, a pharmacy, a supermarket and several restaurants and café-bars. The most popular restaurants are the Bodega Brahona (Manolo), specialising in fish and seafood, paella, tapas and prime beef and the Bar Estarellas just on the opposite side of the old church.

Es Trenc: Fine sandy beach of about 6 kilometres with turquoise waters. It can get very crowded during peak season, especially on weekends, but is a dream come true off-season. Access via the salines or Colonia Sant Jordi.
Playa es Dolç: fine sandy beach, family friendly with a beach bar and sun bed hire.
Playa es Carbó: accessible only by foot or boat. Sandy beach without any infrastructure. Walking distance about an hour along the sea.
Colonia de Sant Jordi offers some smaller bays and a family friendly beach next to the port.
